YouTube API will allow video games to more easily stream in-game content

What's YouTube doing at the annual Game Developers Conference in San Francisco? Talking about integration with video games, obviously. More specifically, the company is hoping to expand an idea we first noticed in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, whereby users could easily stream in-game content to YouTube. Clearly, the company worked in concert with Activision to make that possible, but forthcoming APIs will enable game developers far and wide to add the same functionality to other titles. Unfortunately, details remain murky regarding availability, but we are told that these new tools won't be limited to just consoles -- it sounds as if PC and mobile games will too be able to take advantage.

Picking a Contractor that Won't Leave You High and Dry | Archadeck ...

Over the past month I?ve been spending a lot of time reading and looking at the Archadeck Dream Backyard Makeover submissions and themes have started to emerge. One that seems to be recurring is homeowners being left high and dry by their deck contractors.

Make sure you pick a contractor that will complete the backyard of your dreams, without hassle

Several entries have shown (including one of our February finalists) decks that are half or barely finished. The descriptions reference a contractor that they found out wasn?t licensed and the building they did do wasn?t to code. It?s no wonder why so many homeowners are hesitant to invite contractors to do projects on their home.

Deck construction is a serious topic that can lead to personal injury or damage to the home when done incorrectly. To ensure that the person you hire is going to treat your property as if it were they own, make sure that you ask all of your candidates these questions:

What?s your contractor license number? Many homeowners ask prospective contractors if they are licensed, but reading the contest entries has made me realize that sometimes people lie. You should be able to get the contractor license number from the people you are thinking of working with. That way, if something happens, you have it on file.

How are you insured? A good contractor has the appropriate insurance to protect you against damage that is done to or on your property. If something happens, it shouldn?t have to go through your homeowner?s insurance.

Will you pull the local building permits and have them on file? Any structures built on your property need to be built to the local code. Permits must be pulled and inspections must be made (sometimes a few times during the building phase). ?A contractor who is good at patio and deck construction will do this for you, but you should have access to permit numbers if needed.

What warranties do you have? No one wants to invest is a large home improvement project just to have ?it break or fail. Syracuse Football Players Arrested For Stealing 19-in TV, XBOX, 2 iPods & Video Games

According to Syracuse.com:

Four students arraigned in City Court this morning on burglary and larceny charges were held in jail on $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond each after appearing before Judge Karen Uplinger.

Junior football players Davon Walls (above, left) and Markus Pierce-Brewster are accused of stealing about $950 worth of electronics, including a 19-inch television, XBOX gaming system, two iPods and several video games.

Pierce-Brewster, a junior defensive end for the Orange, acted as a ?lookout? while Walls entered an unlocked apartment on Winding Ridge Road around 1:15 p.m., according to court papers.

Of course these two are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, but the university has surveillance video of the burglary. Of course this comes just days after the Alabama football program was rocked by a illegal use of a credit card to buy snacks ring.

The bad news is that these two Syracuse brahs will now lose their huge scholarships, will be kicked out of school, have to pay court costs and be sent home to get real jobs.

Fire Alarm Prevents Customer's Home from Burning ... - EMC Security

The EMC Security monitoring center received a fire alarm from the home of a Snellville customer.? The fire alarm was received at 9:07 on Monday, March 4th.? The monitoring center operator immediately called the owner in response to the alarm.? The customer had just left his ho me and said he would turn around and go check it.? The monitoring center dispatched the fire department to the customer?s home.? At 9:25 we received multiple additional motion and door alarms from the.? The monitoring center called the owner again who advised that he was 20 min away. ?Dispatch was called the fire department to notify them that the customer was in route to the home.? The fire department advised they had made forced entry into the home and that there was food burning on the stove.?? The customer left food cooking on the stove when he left the home and forgotten to turn the stove off.? This is a mistake that we all make very often in our lives.? Thankfully, no one was at home at the time, but the customer could have lost their most prized possessions such as family pictures and heirlooms.? This customers fire alarm saved their home and everything in it from burning down to the ground.? Please always keep in mind the effectiveness and critical importance of having smoke and fire detectors as a part of your security system.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) ? Malaysian security forces gunned down 31 Filipino intruders in Borneo on Thursday, the highest number of casualties in a single day since nearly 200 members of a Philippine Muslim clan took over an entire village last month, police said.

The armed clansmen have wreaked political havoc for both Malaysia and the neighboring Philippines by trying to stake a long-dormant royal territorial claim to Malaysia's sprawling, resource-rich state of Sabah in Borneo.

Most of the Filipinos had eluded capture in a coastal Sabah district filled with palm oil plantations and forested hills after Malaysian forces attacked them with airstrikes and mortar fire on Tuesday.

Police and military forces tracking them waged a fierce gunbattle that ended in the deaths of 31 clansmen Thursday, national police chief Ismail Omar said, adding that no Malaysians were injured.

Ismail said at least 52 Filipinos have now been killed in the past week since hostilities in the Sabah security crisis escalated. Eight policemen also were fatally shot by the Filipino clansmen and their allies last week in various parts of Sabah.

Less than two hours before the announcement of the casualties, Prime Minister Najib Razak rejected a cease-fire call by Philippine-based members of the clan led by Jamalul Kiram III, who claims to be the sultan, or hereditary ruler, of the southern, predominantly Muslim province of Sulu in the Philippines.

A brother of Kiram, the sultan who lives in Manila, is heading the group in Sabah. Kiram had ordered them to observe a unilateral cease-fire starting Thursday afternoon by holding their current position and taking a defensive posture.

"We are showing to the whole world that first the sultan wants to resolve this peacefully," Abraham Idjirani, a Philippine-based representative for the clansmen, said earlier Thursday. He could not immediately be reached to comment on the police announcement.

Najib responded by saying Malaysia would accept only unconditional surrender by the clansmen, who slipped into Sabah by sea around Feb. 9.

"They have to surrender their arms. They have to do it as soon as possible," Najib said at a nationally televised news conference.

"Don't believe this offer of a cease-fire by Jamalul Kiram," Malaysian Defense Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi wrote on Twitter. "For the sake of the people of Sabah and Malaysia, eliminate all militants first."

Idjirani said a cease-fire would be in line with a statement of concern by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon late Wednesday.

Ban "urges an end to the violence and encourages dialogue among all the parties for a peaceful resolution of the situation," according to the statement issued by Ban's representative.

Ban voiced concerns about how the crisis might affect civilians, including Filipino migrants in Sabah, and urged "all parties to facilitate delivery of humanitarian assistance and act in full respect of international human rights norms and standards," according to the statement.

Malaysia's government has insisted it made every effort to coax the Filipinos to leave and had to use force after the group fatally shot two policemen last week. Six other police officers were ambushed and killed by other Filipinos believed to be linked to the clansmen in another Sabah district.

The Filipinos say Sabah belonged to their royal sultanate for more than a century and should be handed back. Malaysia has dismissed their claim to the state, which has been part of Malaysia for five decades.

An estimated 800,000 Filipinos, mostly Muslims from insurgency-plagued southern provinces, have settled in Sabah over the years to seek work and stability.

Asia stocks rise after Dow hits new all-time high

BANGKOK (AP) ? The Dow's new all-time high and better economic data from the United States propelled Asian stock markets higher Wednesday.

Markets continued to shrug off a budget impasse among political leaders in Washington. Automatic government budget cuts took effect Friday after President Barack Obama and Congress failed to reach a budget deal. Economists expect the $85 billion in cuts to hurt U.S. economic growth.

Japan's Nikkei 225 index jumped 1.3 percent to 11,837.12. Hong Kong's Hang Seng added 0.7 percent to 22,721.18. South Korea's Kospi rose 0.3 percent to 2,021.82. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 advanced 1 percent to 5,127.20. Benchmarks in Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia and mainland China rose.

Analysts said markets were taking their cues from Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke, who has overseen a campaign of massive bond-buying to support the world's biggest economy after the 2008 financial crisis. The issuance of bonds has pushed their prices down, steering investors toward stocks. The program known as "quantitative easing" is in its third phase, which is dubbed QE3.

"The lesson is clear. Don't bet on Capitol Hill. Bet on Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke instead. To be sure, it was Bernanke's reassurance, as last week's congressional testimonies on monetary policy, to keep QE3 on its present course that turned a worried stock market into a record high," said analysts at DBS Bank Ltd. in Singapore.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 125.95 points, or 0.9 percent, to close at 14,253.77 ? more than double its low of 6,547 in March 2009. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 1 percent to 1,539.79. The Nasdaq composite rose 1.3 percent, to 3,224.13.

U.S. shares were also helped by service-sector data, as the Institute for Supply Management said Tuesday said its survey of purchasing managers ? the executives who buy supplies for their companies ? showed more optimism than analysts had expected in February.

Benchmark oil for April delivery rose 20 cents to close at $91.02 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract rose 70 cents to close at $90.82 a barrel on the Nymex on Tuesday, hours after the death of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, whose country sits on the world's second-largest oil reserves, after Saudi Arabia.

In currencies, the euro rose to $1.3062 from $1.3040 late Tuesday in New York. The dollar fell to 93.12 yen from 93.29 yen.
